Welcome to the Manawatu 4WD club website.
| The Manawatu 4WD club was formed in 1973 by the late Don Wells to enjoy and promote four wheel driving. The first club president was Colin Greange. Many of the founding members are still active in the club today. The first club outting was a drive along North Range Road, May 1973, with fifteen vehicles, 11 Landrovers, 2 Jeeps, a Toyota and one Austin Gipsy. Don's son Dean,is carrying on the family involvement being past president and currently vice president. The club was originally named The Manawatu Overland Club but was changed to its current name in 1989 and also now being an incorporated Society. It has approximately 100 members, from all walks of life and a very diverse range of vehicles. We endeavour to have at least one club run a month. These trips range from reasonably hard where some damage may occur, ( dents scratches etc) to easy or shiny trips. The majority of runs are in farms, forestry, rivers and DOC tracks in and around the Manawatu. Occasionally the club will do a "camp over" which is great family fun and good four wheel driving. We meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 7.45pm at the Awapuni Community Centre, Newbury Street, Palmerston North and all are welcome to come along. Information packs are available for prospective members outlining the club rules, vehicle and equipment requirements. Prospective members must attend a minimum of two meetings and two club trips and then be voted in by the club committee. Click on the Gallery to see photos of various club trips. This is updated from time to time so come back and visit us!! For any further info, contact the Club president, George Walker, Ph 063546080. Happy 4WDriving . We hope to see you at the next event and meeting!

| Ohinewairua Station June 2007 | OHINEWAIRUA STATION JUNE 2007
The anticipation of this trip had me like a kid on Christmas morning so the trip to taihape was over in no time, and after waiting for Carl and Juddy to finish their lattes we were off towards the station.
As the night went on and more eager 4x4ers arrived it became clear that rooming with the three Duncan brothers was not the wisest decision Juddy had made, never the less he emerged unscathed the next morning.
9:30 rolled around and it was time to get muddy so I lead the group up to a paddock called Mount Duncan which has a good view of almost all the station when blow me down 7 wild red stags ran across the farm in front of us which must have distracted Nicky as she tried driving in to a dam.
With the excitement over and everyone getting a good idea of where we were going for the day we headed out the back of the property and after about an hour of driving pretty well maintained farm tracks I heard a murmur that mud was wanted so I proceeded to drive in it the next bog I found and subsequently got bogged up to the top of the guards, and to make things worse I was pulled out by a landrover!!. This was followed by the majority of the group having a good play some doing better than others. Then came lunch before heading off in search of more mud.
The afternoon drive was similar to the morning with no bog being left without someone getting stuck. At about 3:30 I realised that we had only seen about half of what I had wanted so we made the call to head home and reenergise for another attack the next day.
An evening of good company and a lot of laughs were had as we watched videos of previous club trips and it became apparent that no comment is safe when the Duncan boys are around, poor old Skippy.
The next day we set out to cover the country we failed to see the day before and it was not long before we found some good play holes to entertain ourselves, unfortunately the first mudhole claimed our first casualty as John Dean’s rover suffered a broken diff. It was not long after that the other landy was hospitalised with a broken engine mount, but to their credit the landys lasted a whole day with no breakdowns the day before J.
A quick look at a mob of wild horses then it was off home. Arriving back at the quarters a quick air up of the tyres and the trip was drawn to a close.
For those who missed out another trip later in the year is already being planned so hope to see you then.
Haynzy out.

| Mckenzie trail | McKenzie Trail
The day started with Matthew driving out to Himatangi, we were one of the first there so we waited in in the nice warm vehicle for the others to turn up. When they finally turned up we had the usual team talk with a twist, all of the people present their names were put into a bag and a lucky person was drawn out and they had to do a write up for the news letter, and of course my name was drawn out.
After a short drive down the beach we headed in land and pulled up to rest of the group who were out of their vehicles looking at some thing around the corner we were pointed towards what ever it was and told your first, so we proceeded (with caution) and found out that wasn’t so bad after all.
A little later on the Mazda was high and dry with all 4’s off of the ground and spinning, two of us tried to pull him over the rise to no avail, then he was winched backwards to have another go.
Further on we came to what was quite a challenging climb (for us anyway), after a couple of goes and almost making it to the top we got pulled over (need more power!!!), the majority of them made it over.
This time Mark was in a spot of bother (a big one actually)
George wont start ” came over the radio his truck we mean, not long later he caught up.
By now some of the hill climbs were getting steeper, three goes and around the by pass.
After lunch on the way back, go right was the call, up a small climb and doing all this while turning and being blinded by the sun at the same time, ending up in a rather precarious angle going nowhere (thanks nick), winched out again thanks George.
A few yards further on I ended up sideways again, thinking I better stop or this could get nasty so I backed out so I ended up at right angles to the track hard up against a bank eventually got myself heading in the right direction.
Mark had managed to get sideways again IN THE SAME PLACE! Needing winching again,
So it was back to the beach and we were welcomed by the setting sun and the rough sea for the drive back to Himatangi with the waves lapping at our feet.
We all got back to the surf club and most of the people decided that they were going to have a play in the big puddle. Aired up and Trev drove home.

| Kanuka Wilderness !! (By Joe Duncan) | Well what can I say it is always a good weekend at Kanuka Wilderness.
I would first of all like to thank Larry & Neil Mercer for allowing the Manawatu 4WD club on the property plus organising a great weekend of 4WD and camping.
